Live video chatting app

HouseParty is a social and communication desktop application that you can use if you like to socialize without leaving your home. It is a live video chatting app that allows up to eight people in a video call. It also enables you to play with your friends so it feels like you are hanging out. On top of that, you can have several group calls at once.

Developed by houseparty.com, this chrome extension can be downloaded for free on the Chrome Web Store. It is a great alternative for other video conference call programs including Zoom, Meet, and Kosmi

What is the Houseparty app used for?

HouseParty makes face-to-face connection effortless. Unlike more traditional video chatting apps, like Facetime and Skype, there are plenty of things you can do with the program. When you launch the app, you will be able to see which of your friends are online and ready to chat. You can also easily enter a chat because it doesn't require you to initiate a call. All you need to do is to click the waving hand emoji beside the name of the user to let them know you're available.

As mentioned, the app allows up to eight persons in a group chat. The app splits the screen between you and the person you are video calling in your chat room, so everyone can see each other. To make your room more private, you can lock it. With this, no one can enter your call unless invited. HouseParty makes your video calls more fun by allowing you to play games, including Heads Up, Trivia, and Quickdraw—all of which support up to eight players.

Is Houseparty a safe app?

It is no secret to many that Houseparty faced a lot of hacking rumors before, however, the developer guaranteed that this communication tool is a highly secured platform. There have been no data breaches, neither exposure of customer data nor third-party accounts. Although they ask for some data permission usage, the collected information is utilized for video chats.

It can be used for targeted advertising as well, but you can easily modify it to protect your private information if you are wary about that. Nevertheless, it ensures that it never sold and will never sell any personal data of its users.  Their Privacy Policy was also updated in order to provide a clearer elaboration of their security and privacy terms.

Newfangled social platform

All in all, HouseParty is a great way to keep in touch with your friends. It offers lots of things that are arguably more interesting than other video messaging apps. It allows you to join more than one video call at once. Plus, it's relatively easy to get friends on the app since it pulls contacts from other social networking apps like Facebook and Snapchat. However, expect a lot of call dropouts, especially if you have an unstable internet connection.
